Terms & Conditions
Summer Holiday Children's Competition 2026
1. The promoter
Douglas Butchers, 34 High Street, Newport Pagnell, MK16 8AQ ("we", "us", "our").
2. Who can enter
The competition is open to children aged under 16 on the closing date.
There are two age categories: Category 1 (10 years and under) and Category 2 (11–15 years).
One entry per child. The drawing must be the child's own work.
Employees of Douglas Butchers and their immediate families may enter, but are not eligible to win a prize.
Entrants under 16 must have the permission of a parent or guardian to enter.
3. How to enter
Entry is free and no purchase is necessary.
Collect an official competition sheet from our shop at 34 High Street, Newport Pagnell.
Draw your dream butcher's shop on the front of the sheet, and ask a parent or guardian to complete the details on the back: the child's first name and age, the parent or guardian's name, and a contact telephone number or email address.
Return the completed sheet to the shop by closing time on Saturday 22 August 2026. Entries received after this time cannot be considered.
Incomplete entries, or entries without a parent or guardian's contact details, cannot be judged.
4. Judging
Entries will be judged by the Douglas Butchers team on creativity, imagination and originality.
There is no public vote. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Judging takes place in the week following the closing date.
5. Prizes
One prize per age category: a £30 Smyths Toys gift card.
Winners will be announced in the shop on Saturday 29 August 2026 and contacted using the details provided on the entry.
If a winner cannot be contacted within 14 days of the announcement, we reserve the right to award the prize to another entrant.
There is no cash alternative. Prizes are not transferable and cannot be exchanged. Smyths Toys gift cards are subject to Smyths Toys' own terms and conditions.
Smyths Toys is not a sponsor of, and has no involvement in, this competition.
6. Display of entries
All entries will be displayed in our shop. If space runs out, entries will be displayed in rotation, so an entry may not be on display at all times.
Entries will not be returned and may be disposed of after the competition ends.
Where the parent or guardian has ticked the relevant box on the entry sheet, we may share photographs of the artwork on our social media pages. We will only ever publish the child's first name and age. We will never publish surnames, contact details, or photographs of children.
Consent to share artwork can be withdrawn at any time by contacting us in the shop or by email, and we will remove the artwork from our social media pages.
7. The £2 entry drop-off voucher
The voucher printed on the entry sheet entitles the bearer to £2 off a purchase of £20 or more.
It is valid once only, in store, at the time the completed entry is handed in. It cannot be used before or after drop-off, and cannot be redeemed on a later visit.
One voucher per entry. The voucher has no cash value and cannot be used with any other offer.
The voucher is a thank-you and is not a condition of entry: the competition is free to enter and no purchase is necessary.
8. Your personal information
We collect the child's first name and age, the parent or guardian's name, and a contact telephone number or email address. We use this information only to run the competition, to identify entries, and to contact winners.
The parent or guardian gives this information and any consent on the child's behalf.
We will keep entry details for no longer than three months after the competition ends, unless the marketing opt-in box has been ticked.
If the marketing opt-in box has been ticked, we will use the contact details provided to send news and offers from Douglas Butchers. You can unsubscribe at any time.
We will not sell or share personal details with third parties.
To ask what we hold, to correct it, or to have it deleted, contact us at the shop. For more detail, see our privacy policy.
9. General
By entering, entrants and their parents or guardians accept these terms.
We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that is not the child's own work, or that is offensive or inappropriate.
We reserve the right to amend these terms or to cancel or amend the competition where necessary for reasons outside our reasonable control. Any changes will be posted on this page.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
